Swimming
Tried to escape the Germans yesterday and went down the left (eastern) side of Lago Maggiore yesterday, to a small village with a beach. We didn't quite make it but while tanning on the shore of the lake, reading "il caffè" I read an article about a village up in the mountains, called "Arcumeggia".
Arcumeggia is an artist's village a few kilometers from Luino. So after the worst heat was over (or after we thought the worst heat was over around five o'clock) we drove up and around Luin, looking for a sign saying "Casalzuigno", which, of course we didn't find anywhere near Luin. Instead we got stuck first in the jam of an accident and later on in a parade. All this at about 35 degrees Celsius and the sparkling lake in view!
Well, when we found the road it was a small road going up steep almost like the one leading up to Vigera, only that there were quite a lot of folks going up and down. Once there, it was a beautiful little village. Old men were sitting in the park playing at cards, the kids were running around and the village was full of wonderful paintings, mostly by unknown artists. But I really enjoyed their art!
Going down we stopped at a place where there were lots of Italian cars, went down to the beach and went for another quick swim on the Italian side of Lago Maggiore. I do love evening swims, when there are no tourists and the sun is setting over the mountains...
