La pioggia

La pioggia sounds pretty in Italian and pretty it is here with the clouds playing hide and seek with the mountains and the water running in rivulets down the slopes of the streets. Yesterday I went out to buy fresh ciabatta bread and enjoyed little cool drops of rain on my skin, thinking of Muenster.

It is strange but one can also miss the ugly things of a city. Muenster has given me a lot of rain but also a lot of happy times. I remember Sylvana and me sitting at the kitchen windows at Rudolf Harbig Weg watching a storm moving across the fields. We felt high up on top of the world somehow. Here I live on the first floor surrounded by towering mountains and spots of color where houses are build on the hills. Living "down" is entirely different from living on the plains. However, once I got a job I'm also going to get a cat and at the new apartment we have a door that opens into the garden, which is perfect!

It is so quiet here. Above the apartment there is an architecture studio and beneath it the basement. The basement has the smell of the old ruins of castles we used to visit in Austria when I was little. A moist, earthen smell. But now we have winter the world just doesn't smell and I can't wait for the strong profumes of spring...
